RAPID RECAP:
- Tiger, a Ukrainian soldier, survived an ambush thanks to the NFM SKJOLD™ ballistic plate, which stopped three bullets that could have been fatal.
- Despite being shot eight times and enduring severe injuries, Tiger’s courage, resilience, and the protection of NFM armor helped him stay alive.
- NFM’s mission to provide high-quality protection has saved countless lives, including Tiger’s, reinforcing our commitment to those on the frontline.
At NFM, our mission is clear: to protect those who stand on the frontline against both man-made and natural threats. Every product we develop is designed to offer soldiers, law enforcement, and frontline defenders the best possible protection when it matters most. Tiger’s story serves as a strong reminder of why this mission is so vital.
The ambush
Tiger and his team, Ukrainian soldiers on the frontline, were ambushed while moving through their own territory at dusk. The enemy, hidden in dense vegetation just 7-10 meters away, opened fire with little warning. Tiger was the first to be hit. Wounded, he fell into a bomb crater but remained determined to fight back. Despite his weapon failing, he continued to defend himself with grenades, administer first aid, and crawl toward his team, all while battling immense pain and blood loss.
Communication with Tiger was sporadic, and at one point, his command post feared the worst. However, his teammates continued, and with the help of a thermal drone, Tiger’s location was eventually pinpointed. The rescue team found him alive—badly injured, but alive.
Armor that made the difference
Tiger had been shot eight times: one bullet struck his hand, three hit his pelvic area, and several rounds hit his ballistic plate. The NFM plate absorbed three direct hits, stopping the bullets from causing fatal injuries. While two rounds penetrated the Kevlar layer and reached his pelvis, Tiger survived.
Doctors later confirmed that without the protection provided by his NFM plate, his wounds would have been fatal. His survival was the result of a combination of factors: his courage, his resilience, and the ballistic protection that gave him a fighting chance.

We honor Tiger’s bravery and the resilience of all frontline defenders. Their stories fuel our dedication to innovation and quality.
